British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program

British Columbia has an active nominee program to attract skilled and qualified people to fuel its economic growth. The growing labour market needs are met by the BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP). Foreign workers and experienced entrepreneurs gain permanent residency in through the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC-PNP).

The BC-PNP is one of Canada’s most varied PNPs, with different streams for different categories. Following BC PNP categories are aligned with the federal government’s Express Entry system.

  • Skilled Worker Category
  • Health Care Professional Category
  • International Graduate Category
  • International Post-Graduate Category
  • Entry Level and Semi-Skilled Worker Category

Apart from the above, British Columbia also has a Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS). Under the SIRS, applicants have to register and upload a profile which essentially has some personal information, information relating to their job offer in BC, work experience, language ability, and level of education. The registered candidates are assigned a score (out of 200). Periodic draws by BC government lists out candidates who meet the cut-off threshold for their category in that draw. They are then advised to show Expression of Interest / Invitation to Apply to apply for a provincial nomination.

Documentation Required by BCPNP for Skilled Workers

The documents required by BCPNP for the skilled worker category are:

  • A valid written offer of employment on the official company letterhead.
  • Proof of having sufficient funds required to support themselves and family members for stipulated period.
  • Valid passport and travelling documents
  • Documents supporting legal immigration status in Canada
  • Educational certificates (degree, diploma, and certificates)
  • Work Related Reference Letters
  • Language proficiency (IELTS, PTE, TOEFL etc.)
  • Police certificate and clearance
  • Civil identity proof (age, name, date of birth must be mentioned)

British Columbia Express Entry

British Columbia nominates potential candidates With or without experience through Express Entry system. If an Express Entry profile is created and then you are nominated British Columbia PNP then you can create a new Express Entry profile and transfer your BC PNP credentials in your EE profile.

SKILLED WORKER

British Columbia’s growing economy has a growing demand of skilled workers in high-demand occupations. The Skills Immigration (SI) – Skilled Worker category of the BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) opens up opportunities for workers in a professional, management, technical, trade or other skilled occupation to gain permanent residence in B.C.

To qualify, the first step is a valid job offer from an employer in British Columbia in addition to relevant training and at least two years of experience.

The criteria for the Skilled Worker category are:

  • Has proof of having secured a full-time, indeterminate job offer (a permanent job, or one with no set end date) from a B.C. employer
  • Has approved qualifications to perform the duties of the job
  • Have at least two (2) years of directly related work experience
  • Has requisite financial security to show you can support yourself and your dependents
  • Have or be eligible for legal immigration status in Canada
  • Has met minimum language requirements
  • Have a wage offer in line with B.C. wage rates for the occupation

HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL

The growing health infrastructure in British Columbia needs more health care professionals. Under the Skills Immigration (SI), Healthcare Professionals including physicians, specialists, nurses and allied health professionals work in B.C. and gain permanent residence.

To qualify for this category, you must have the support of, or a full-time, indeterminate job offer (a permanent job, or one with no set end date) from a public health authority as a:

  • Physician
  • Specialist
  • Registered Nurse
  • Registered Psychiatric Nurse
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Allied Health Professional Such as:
    • Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
    • Clinical Pharmacist
    • Medical Laboratory Technologist
    • Medical Radiation Technologist
    • Occupational Therapist
    • Physiotherapist
    • Midwife must have a letter of confirmation from an established practice group in B.C.
  • Qualify to work in your occupation in B.C.
  • Have at least two (2) years of directly related work experience
  • Show you can support yourself and your dependents
  • Have, or be eligible for, legal immigration status in Canada
  • For NOC skill level B occupations, meet minimum language requirements
  • Have a wage offer in line with B.C. wage rates for the occupation

INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE CATEGORY

Canada welcomes International Graduates wherein fresh graduates with degrees from any recognized Canadian educational institution or equivalent. Only persons who have graduated in the past 3 years from a recognized Canadian educational institution or any equivalent are eligible to apply through this category.

INTERNATIONAL POST-GRADUATE CATEGORY

Slightly different from International Graduate Category, this category is open to candidates who

  • Have accepted full-time job offer from the BC employer.
  • The desired job title must be in NOC matrix.
  • Qualify for the job requirements required by the employer.
  • Must score minimum in the language proficiency test.
  • Have, or be eligible to move in BC with legal status.

ENTRY LEVEL AND SEMI-SKILLED

The Skills Immigration (SI) – Entry Level and Semi-Skilled category of the BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) is a way for workers in a valid tourism/hospitality, long-haul trucking or food processing occupation to gain permanent residence in B.C.

To qualify for this category, you must:

  • Have accepted a full-time, indeterminate job offer (a permanent job, or one with no set end date) from a B.C. employer in a specific occupation in tourism/hospitality, long-haul trucking, or the food processing industry.
  • Have been working full-time for your employer for a minimum of nine consecutive months before applying
  • Meet minimum language and education requirements
  • Qualify to do the job offered to you
  • Show you can support yourself and your dependents
  • Have legal immigration status in Canada
  • Be earning a wage in line with B.C. wage rates for the occupation
