Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP)

One of the smaller provinces of Canada, Prince Edward Island is a maritime province with farmlands. The province is a part of history as it was in Charlotte town that the idea of Canada was born at the famous Charlotte town conference in 1864. Lush farmland and beautiful coasts home to a growing economy centered on agriculture, tourism, and fishing define this beautiful province.

The PEI PNP is Prince Edward Island’s Provincial Nominee Program. Once accepted and given Prince Edward Island Provincial Nomination Certificate, the candidate can apply for Canadian permanent residence with the Government of Canada.

The PEI PNP accepts applications under three major immigration categories:

  • PEI PNP Express Entry
  • Labour Impact Category
  • Business Impact Category

PEI PNP Express Entry

The PEI PNP Express Entry Category is useful for candidates who are eligible to enter the Express Entry pool and wish live and work in Prince Edward Island. The Express entry usually has processing times of six months or less. Only Express Entry profiles of applicants who have skills that meet current identified labour needs for the province will be considered.

Labour Impact Category

The province accepts applications from people are needed in PEI’s labour market. This category is divided into three streams. They are as follows:

Skilled Worker Stream

Open for workers who have been identified or hired by a PEI employer. In other words, an individual to apply must be either currently working in PEI or have a job offer from an employer in the province. Eligible applicants will work in a skilled profession and possess relevant experience and at least a post-secondary degree or diploma.

The eligibility criteria require:

  • Full-time long-term (i.e. permanent or a minimum of 2 years) job offer from an employer in PEI in NOC skill level 0, A or B
  • Valid work permit for working in Canada
  • Legal status in the country of residence
  • Ability to attend an interview with office staff from PEI Office of Immigration, if required
  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in a minimum 2-year program
  • Age between 18-59 years
  • Minimum of 2 years of full-time work experience in the past 5 years
  • Language ability in English or French to effectively perform the job offered, language ability to be verified through one of the following ways:
    1. Language test from an IRCC approved testing institute within the last 2 years with the minimum score of CLB/NCLC 4
    2. Employer signed PEI PNP-L06 Employer Language Declaration
    3. Documents from an internationally recognized institute indicating that the principal language studied was English or French
  • Sufficient financial resources to pay all immigration costs for self and family to settle in PEI
  • A genuine intention to settle in the PEI

Critical Worker Stream

This stream is for workers who have already been hired by a PEI employer, and whose employer would like to sponsor them for permanent residency. Eligible applicants can work in a semi-skilled or unskilled profession.

Following is the eligibility criteria for the stream:

  • Full-time long-term (i.e. permanent or a minimum of 2 years) job offer from an employer in PEI in NOC skill level C or D
  • Minimum of 6 months of full-time work experience with a PEI employer
  • Valid work permit and legal status in Canada
  • Ability to attend an interview with office staff, if required
  • Minimum education of secondary school
  • Age between 18-59 years
  • Minimum of 2 years of full-time work experience or relevant education in the last 5 years
  • Language test from an IRCC approved testing institute within the last 2 years with the minimum score of CLB/NCLC 4
  • Financial resources to pay all immigration costs for self and family to settle in PEI
  • A genuine intention to settle in the PEI

International Graduate Stream

This stream is for recent graduates from recognized accredited Prince Edward Island universities and colleges who have already been hired by a PEI employer. Eligible applicants will work in a skilled profession in their field of study.

Following is the eligibility criteria for the stream:

  • Aged between 18-59 years
  • Permanent (minimum of 2 years) job offer from an employer in PEI
  • Valid post-graduate work permit with legal status in Canada
  • Successful completion of a post-secondary degree or diploma from a publicly-funded PEI post-secondary institution
  • Sufficient language skills in English and/or French language to perform the job offered
  • Ability to attend an interview with office staff from PEI Office of Immigration, if required
  • Sufficient financial resources to pay all immigration costs for self and family to settle in PEI
  • A genuine intention to settle in the PEI

Business Impact Category

Work Permit Stream

This stream helps individuals who wish to invest in a PEI business to transition to PEI on a work permit prior to receiving a provincial nomination. During their time on a work permit, applicants are expected to begin working in Canada and to learn about the business in which he or she will be investing.

Following is the eligibility criteria for the Business Impact Category:

  • Minimum verifiable personal net worth of CAD $600,000 which has been accumulated through legal and legitimate sources in your own right
  • Minimum education of secondary school equivalent
  • Age between 21-59 years at the time of application
  • Business ownership experience or transferable management skills and past employment
  • Minimum language requirements equivalent to CLB/NCLC 4
  • Intention to live and work in PEI at the same time providing day-to-day active and ongoing management of own PEI-based business

Once you receive a nomination from the Government of PEI, the next step is to submit your application for Permanent Residency to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) with your nomination certificate attached to it. IRCC will assess your application on the basis of various factors. The processing times might vary.
